Angry conversations with God

Disillusioned, disenfranchised, and disinterested in anything churchy, Susan Isaacs knew of only one thing to do when she hit spiritual rock bottom at age 40. . . . She took God to couples counseling.
In this cuttingly poignant memoir, Susan Isaacs chronicles her rocky relationship with the Almightyfrom early childhood to midlife crisis–and all the churches where she and God tried to make a home: Pentecostals, Slackers for Jesus, and the über-intellectuals who turned everything, including the weekly church announcements, into a three-point sermon. Casting herself as the neglected spouse, Susan faces her inner nag and the ridiculous expectations she put on Godsome her own, and some from her “crazy in-laws” at church. Originally staged as a solo show in New York and Los Angeles, ANGRY CONVERSATIONS WITH GOD is a cheeky, heartfelt memoir that, even at its most scandalous, is still an affirmation of faith.

My Review: When I first read the blurb for this book I was like yes! Finally someone who feels the way I feel and is not shy to take up matters. I have to admit I never thought of taking God to couplecounseling. When I read it in the book and how she pulled it off I thought that was a neat idea.

The author feels that she has put God before everything and yet her life is still lacking at the age of 40. When a Friend suggests that a relationship with God is like a marriage the idea of taking God to couples counseling came to life.

In this kind of memoir on can either be to cheesy or too mean for lack of a better word. The author struck just the right balance. Many of her observations had me going yes! Me too.

The reader if so inclined can take a lot from this book. I found myself reevaluating several key areas in my life and so much more make sense. This is not a preachy book though. I am not sure if I could handle that kind at the moment. But rather, an honest relection about the issues the author has with God and her attempt to work through said issues.

This is a book full of spunk and witticisms and makes no apology as to how she feels. If you like that kind of spiritual book you will love this book.
