Coffee Talk

Coffee Talk

I admit it. I am a huge coffee snob. I hate cheap coffee and will only buy beans from a coffee shop and grind them myself. So when I saw this book I was interested in what it had to say.

It first gives the history of coffee and how it spread around the world. Then it talked about how each country has their own distinct way of making coffee. It goes into depth on each of these.

Of most interest to me is it explains how to make the perfect cup with each method. One big thing I learned is not to keep the coffee on the warmer but if it cools down before I drink it all to microwave it to heat it up. To keep it on the warmer will destroy the flavor. Another interesting thing was to not to pour coffee while it is still brewing. I admit I do that a lot. It says that you will get a stronger than usual cup and the rest will be weaker than usual. It is full of tips such as these. I read it on Monday and I have been trying out all the tips and I must say now my home brew is almost as good as the coffee shops!

If you are a coffee lover like me and want to know how to make the perfect brew at home or just are interested in the history then this is the book for you!

I am a total coffee freak. When I make drip coffee, I put it in a thermos so it doesn’t oxidize in the air. Yeah, I’m nuts. I need to tract down a copy of this.

  2. I may buy this without looking it over first! We are also coffee snobs. Don’t like cheap coffee which are labeled (at our place) floor sweepings if we are forced to endure a cup. Grind it fresh, high quality beans. Right on!

  5. Thanks so much for sharing this book! I definitely want to check this out. I didn’t use to be a coffee snob but now I can’t even drink the coffee at my office. I have to bring my own! There really is a difference in the taste of cheap coffee vs. quality coffee. Great tips in your review also.

  11. I’m not a coffee snob, but I do want it brewed such that i can drink it black. A good strong flavour, but not bitter. At the same time \i don’t want it to be weak. i have had such weak coffee that i had to comment that my dish water has more flavour Sounds like a good read.

  12. I’m not much of a coffee drinker, but I still found all the tips and tricks you learned to be fascinating. I’m sure I’ll be telling people about it like I know something. πŸ™‚
