Deep Like Me: Book Review

My Review: One of the things that bug me about Christian books and some Christians in general is the fact they all like they are holier than other people. I feel like slapping them and telling them we are all sinners only saved by God’s Grace and Mercy. I dislike those holier than thou attitudes with a passion.

That is why I enter such books carefully and with some trepidation. Still when I read “and I dragged my sorry soul behind Jesus” on one of the first pages of this book I knew I was reading a kindred soul and settled down for what I imagined would be a good talk between friends (if we ever met).

Deep Like Me is a book that tells of the author journey of following Jesus. It is filled with humor and lacks the holier than thou attitude.

The author Rick  Bundschuh tells of how when we all start following God we have these ideas that our lives here on out is going to be easy and filled with blessings and we will never have to do anything ever again. However as  Bundschuh points out we often are called to make decisions that can cost us. When we pick up our crosses and follow him we are traveling on a higher road, yes, but not necessarily an easier one.

The author paints us a picture of some of these situations that he has had to face and how he found the courage and the strength to follow his convictions even when he was standing alone.

Over all I found this book to be refreshing and enlightening. I will be sure to pass this book around to all my friends.

This book sounds like a great one. I have enjoyed reading your review. I can’t wait to read it. I love books that encourage and inspire. I have just finished the book, “Rich in Years” by author Johann Christoph Arnold. http://www.plough.com/en/rich-in-years His book is full of answers to many difficult questions in life like, “How can we restore the vital bonds between generations, so that wisdom and experience is shared and passed on to children and grandchildren?” It’s wonderful!
