The Goldfinch-A DNF Review

My Review: This was promoted as being THE book of the year. It was the darling of all the people who managed to snag an ARC. So I eagerly got my copy from the library and started to read. It was slooooow moving. Still it had to be good cause I did not find not ONE negative review. So I trudged on. and on and on and..well you get my drift. I think the first plot twist happened on page 500 or so. Normally I can read for hours but with this book I kept getting distracted and putting it down. I kept picking it back up hoping that NOW the good part starts. After the fisrt plot twist I was like FINALLY!! but alas, the next 200 pages were just too much to bear. After a week of reading I was ready to throw the damn thing in the garbage. At least it was a library book so i wasn’t out 15 dollars.

Now that I think about it, what if it is the kind of book that has one of those endings that make you go WTF? Did I miss out? I still cant bring myself to find out. It makes me angry that I spent a week on this book and like 4 things happened. I read it in Jan and I am still angry about that. Damn book. Anyways the only positive for me was the raw descriptive feelings that it invoked. There are drugs, sex and art involved. Sounds promising right? I thought so too but for me I just couldn’t make myself stare at another page of where nothing happens.

Dont take my word for it though you might like it.

  1. Seems to me the fact that it was 771 pages long might have been a warning. 😉 After reading your assessment, I’m not very eager to check it out.
