I used to have two blogs but recently I decided to combine both blogs into one. I read How to Blog for Profit Without Losing Your Soul, and I realized that I wanted to try and make a go out of creating a business based on my writing and this blog. My passions are reading, writing and gaming plus I like to write about all three so after reading some blogs that managed to make a business off of their passions and only have one blog I Thought why not try?
So It came down to which blog I wanted to keep and which one I wanted to fold into the other blog. I know that Hillary Nicole Roberts sounds more professional but honestly, I was already in love with Adventures in never never land, and I have built this blog up over the past three years. So after much hemming and hawing I decided to go with Adventures in never never land. And combine everything into one. If people think it doesn’t look that professional, then they are people I really don’t want to be working with. I am creative and wish to work with creative people.
Over the years, I have really built Adventures In Never Never Land and my screen name purplemoonmyst. If anyone that knows me knows that to find me on the internet all they have to do is look under those two names and there I will be. Again I admit not the most professional set up, but I have bput a lof of effort into those two identies and the thought of starting all over just overwhelmed me. So I am sticking with those two and focusing on really building this brand.
I wanted validation that other people had done this and had success, so I went looking on the internets. I found three new favorite blogs. The Paper Fury Modern Mrs Darcy and the Book Wheel they have all built their brands around their blogs and make a living doing what they love best. So I took the plug and am now attempting to do the same thing.
So I took a deep breath and took the plunge. With trembling hands and bated breath, I combined all my email lists and sent out a newsletter and waited to see how many would unsubscribe. Out of 500 people only one did! So I counted that as a success and knew that I was on the right path.
The other day I was tracking my blog stats, and the blog has actually grown since I did this. It grew faster than it ever did before. My page views shot up, and people even started leaving more comments on the blog! This gave me all the validation and encouragement that I needed to continue.
I am happier now that I am not cranking out posts that I thought was professional, but instead, I let my personality shine in everything that I do. I believe that people connect more with authenticity than they do with monotonous sounding posts. I know I do. I read the business blogs, and I am bored to tears. But when I read a blog where the personality shines through then I am hooked.
Overall, I am happy that I decided to combine both of the blogs into this one. If I had it to do over I would have chucked all the business “advice” and just added to Adventures in Never Never Land instead of trying to follow some formula that felt even worse than my previous god awful government job.
