A Day In My Life

A couple weeks ago Trish had the idea of doing a Day in the Life of. I thought it was a wonderful idea so I decided to participate! I am a freelance writer so I work from home or wherever I want most of the time. So here is a day out of my life. Hope you enjoy!

8:00 am- Wake up. Stumble to the ref and pour me a nice big glass of iced Death Wish Coffee. Take my meds and stumble over to the computer to check Facebook.

8:30 continue to drink my coffee I usually have about a half-gallon in the am. What can I say, addiction is a powerful thing. Start to get caffeinated enough that some of my Facebook friends end-times and conservative rantings make me mad. Switch to Twitter and feedly.

8:30-10:00 am- Catch up on Feedly. Comment on blogs and try to stay in the loop on Twitter. Talk to friends on gchat.

10 am to 12 pm work out start do my morning pages and some other journaling or writing exercises.

12pm to 1 pm-Lunch

1pm-5pm write for different clients and blogs etc

5 pm- wish I had more in real life friends to go out with. Ask some friends if they want to talk on the video phone. Friends claim their “real” jobs make them uber tired.

6 pm 7pm read

7pm- 8 pm- call a deaf friend and catch up

8 pm- again wish I had more friends in real life then sigh tell myself that working as a freelancer has its pros and cons.

8pm to 10 pm Read

10 pm to 11 pm looked at and decided what I need to accomplish for the next day

11 pm Go to bed.

I may go out on some days also, like to a coffee shop or the Library. Some days I am on the phone a lot some not. The day that I picked out to keep track was tame. I can’t wait to see everyone else’s Life in the Day. Oh the day that I picked I did have dinner somewhere in there while doing other things.

  1. Thanks for sharing a peek into your day – I do love seeing how others spend their day 🙂

      You are welcome!

  2. I go back and forth on whether I would enjoy staying at home and working. I think it would be nice to be able to sneak in some other things during the day (cleaning or reading) but I do think it would feel a bit isolating at times. It’s very rare for me to get together with friends in real life–most of my interaction (outside of work and family) seems to be via screen these days… Thanks for participating Hilary. 🙂

You are welcome! It is a bit isolating, but I try and keep in contact with many people as possible to help with that.

  3. I’m noticing a trend with the first thing in the morning – coffee. We all drink coffee. And I love mine – all 2 cups of it that I can have. LOL

Totally enjoying hearing about the days that other have. 🙂

  4. Coffee used to be an everyday thing for me but lately I’ve been drinking herbal tea. Probably why I spend a good part of my morning stumbling around. I do sneak an iced coffee in here and there but that’s only because it’s 90 degrees here which is too hot for March.

    1. Hillary says:

I live in Kent Ohio so it is like winter 8 months out of the year here. I love iced coffee anytime tho.

  5. I’m trying to spend less time on Facebook in general because the various rants make me ranty which isn’t good! Sounds like an interesting day! I think most of my interaction is either my family or online so you’re not alone in that!

    1. Hillary says:

I know!! Most of my facebook friends are people from college and before facebook I was like they are cool people. Now I am like ooookkkkk.. lol

  6. Beth F says:

Sounds like a nice day — I don’t always get out and about either.

    1. Hillary says:

Do you ever get cabin fever? Especially in the winter time?

Work at home has its upsides and downsides, doesn’t it? Lots that I like, but days that I never leave the house feel a bit lame.

    1. Hillary says:

In the winter I stay cooped up, but the summer I try and get out as much as possible.

  8. I used to keep up with my friends better until hubby and I took up a new hobby to do together a few years ago (social ballroom dancing and then we added line dancing) and that ate up just about all my “extra” time. I did arrange with a friend to meet for supper and go to a book talk on Thursday night, but we hadn’t seen each other in several weeks by then. I’m jealous of people who work from home, but I’m not very self-motivated, so it might be hard for me!

    1. Hillary says:

That sounds like a fun hobby! I have two left feet so not sure how well I could dance.

  9. Irene McKenna says:

Working at home is definitely a mixed blessing. The good news is that I’m always available to my kids. And the bad news is that I’m always available to my kids. 🙂 And I do miss the camaraderie of working in an office.

    1. Hillary says:

I know!! So many of my friends are like well, if you had a REAL job you would understand. Hmmph I DO have a real job!

  10. I love the idea of working at home, but then I worry I wouldn’t actually get any work done. Too many other temptations around the house. And stuff that needs to be done . . . I imagine you have to be a real self-motivator to be successful as a freelancer.

I enjoyed reading about your day. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hillary says:

Your welcome! If I start to get distracted at home I usually go to the Library and work. I like going to the college library cause it is almost distraction free.

  11. I always wish I could work at home, but I also think I wouldn’t be very productive if I were on my own all day. It’s nice you got in so much reading time in the evening!

    1. Hillary says:

It can be challenging at times, but for the most part I am self-motivated enough to make it work.
