What does it take to create the career you want?

It's no secret that the world of work has changed, and we're shifting toward an ever more entrepreneurial, self-reliant, work-from-wherever-you-are economy. That can be a liberating force, and many professionals dream of becoming independent, whether by starting their own businesses, becoming consultants or freelancers, or developing a sideline.

But there's a major obstacle professionals face when they contemplate taking the leap: how to actually make money doing what they love. You may have incredible talent and novel ideas, but figuring out how to get started, building your reputation in a new realm, developing multiple revenue streams, and bringing in a steady flow of new clients can be a daunting prospect.

Dorie Clark, a successful entrepreneur and author, has done it all. And in Entrepreneurial You she provides a blueprint for professional independence, with insights and advice on building your brand, monetizing your expertise, and extending your reach and impact online. In short, engaging chapters she outlines the necessary elements and concrete tactics for entrepreneurial success. She shares the stories of entrepreneurs of all kinds--from consultants and coaches to podcasters, bloggers, and online marketers--who have generated six- and seven-figure incomes.

This book will be your hands-on guide to building a portfolio of revenue streams, both traditional and online, so that you can liberate yourself financially and shape your own career destiny.

A mastermind that I am in picking this book for the book club. I initially listened to it on audio ( review here) but since this book an the information was so essential to be, I begged my local library to get me a copy. So this is all about the print book.

 What I liked

I loved how she is not at all preachy but she explains and goes into detail on how to establish multiple income streams. I honestly did not know that there were so many ways to make money from your blog or online carer. I was deeply impressed by how she went into detail about each method and the pros and cons of each.

I especially loved how vulnerable she was in detailing her failures. We all have them especially in the beginning when we are just getting started but it seems that many people just want to sweep their failures under the rug and act like they just sat down and started a blog and the money started pouring in. I see people all like ohhhh I made 5,000 in one month only by blogging. They fail to mention that they have been blogging for a decade and they spent 10-12 hours on their business.  Dorie Clark is brutally honest about how much time one must be willing to invest to get to that level.

I liked how she portrayed other people in the field and how they made their millions. And guess what? EVERYONE in this book is brutally honest. I have seen some people who make it look easy to do all that is involved, but this is not the case here. For example when speaking of organizing a retreat the person talking about that explains that you have to pick a spot then you have to do a million other stuff before it takes place then you have to pray and make a unicorn sacrifice to get it to go well. Heh.

What I did not like

This is another book that in my opinion was perfection.

I found this book soooo helpful I am glad I got the print version because I noticed missed some vital info. Probably because I fell asleep multiple times while listening to it. There is something about audiobooks that lulls me to sleep. Works better than my Ambien. I liked the audio production, so don’t let that deter you.
