The Sunday Salon

I have been reading for #thankfullyreading, but I had no idea there were challenges until I started reading my feedly this am. Next year I will block this weekend off in my book blog planner. Anyway, I had a good Thanksgiving. I saw on a fashion blog how they recommend wearing fancy sweatpants to Thanksgiving dinner since you are going to eat and end up in a food coma. I looked and for super fat people like me fancy sweatpants don’t exist so I went and bought me some cute PJ’s. Mom almost had a heart attack, but I stood my ground and won. I felt cute so that is what matters right?

I WAS reading The Fangirls Guide to the Galaxy. I got about halfway through, and I went to finish it and got the dreaded YOUR LOAN HAS EXPIRED  message. Sighhhh. I requested it  again from the library, and hopefully I get it back soon. I was REALLY enjoying that book. I also read The Places that Scare You and The Pocket Pema Chadron. You can see that I am taking Non-fiction November very seriously. Never fear, I have some fiction lined up for December.

I was originally going to diversify this blog, but I decided to keep it a book blog and put everything else on my Tumblr, like My Happiness Project and fashion and stuff.

I am re-reading A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. I am not sure what to make of this dude. He is way out there, but most of what he says makes perfect sense if you open your brain really wide. I mean WIDE. He is a good author to read while stoned actually. Get you a bowl then read Eckhart Tolle. Your life will never be the same.  cough   Personally when I read that he became enlightend then spent two years on a park benches in extreme joy I must admit I think he was tripping on something. I would like to know what so I too can sit around in ecstatic joy and annoy mere mortals around me. Alas, I will just continue the fight against my depression. I am not depressed at the moment, though, but I am sure not in a blissed out state. hmmph.

I am gonna try to read some Christian authors.  There are a few that actually make you feel warm and fuzzy and like you want to know God instead of the ones that come across as self-righteous assholes. Some people suggested I give people such as Billy Graham and the like more chances. I have to admit that I haven’t done that. I read ONE Billy Graham book and was like Lord, have mercy, your followers are insane. Then again Eckhart Tolle crosses into insanity territory also and here I am on my third rereading of his book. SO what THAT means I am not sure yet.  Maybe one needs stronger drugs than weed to “get” people such as Charles Stanley. The fact that Charles Stanley’s books are free on Kindle and he still cant get to the top of the list says a lot but ANYWAY I am going to be really open and read a book such as his. I really want to work on my faith. I believe in God, and all just that I am all like peace love and mercy and other people are like GOD IS GOING TO DAMN HUMANITY TO HELL IF YOU DO NOT REPENT! REPENT I SAY! Somehow I cant picture God as a big Celestial judge who would damn all of his own creation to hell.

Anyway, today I will be re-reading Eckhart Tolle (sober) and being lazy. I really wish I could read by the fire but it is 75 degrees here in the south, and my mom refuses to get more propane until it hits the 50’s. It has been really warm for this time of year. It is tripping me up. People are all like IT IS THE HOLIDAYS! And my brain is all like no, summer is coming!

I would send you in search of Anne Lamott’s Traveling Mercies if you are looking for someone who is trying to be honest and trying to be Christian. I love Anne Lamott.

  2. Texas has dipped into crazy weather territory with flooding and temps in the 30s. It feels like Christmas already! Here’s hoping you get something delightfully seasonal soon.

Oh my!! It is hot here but cold there? I wonder what is going on? Whatever it is I hope it stops soon. Having the AC on in November is just…wrong. lol

  3. I enjoy reading Christian authors, though I haven’t much experience with non-fiction Christian writings. I’m trying to change that. But I, like you, don’t want to read anything by a self-righteous asshole. Hopefully you have luck. I’ll watch your blog to see what I can find.
