This #1 New York Times best-selling guide to decluttering your home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate like snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles?Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three-month waiting list).  With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house “spark joy” (and which don’t), this international bestseller featuring Tokyo’s newest lifestyle phenomenon will help you clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home—and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

why I read this bookThis book is burning up the blogosphere. Plus I want to get started on my happiness project for July and that is getting my apartment in order. I need all the help I can get and my Library hold FINALLY came in!

my review This book makes so much more sense when you read it. You are all like why didn’t I THINK of that. It is very simple, so simple you will feel dumb for not knowing all this time. She takes you on a tour of how she came up with her system and the psychology behind it. I agree with her on everything but the books. I am not sure I can bear to part with my books, but I am going to give it the old college try. Most of my reading is ditigal these days so who knows. I always feel like I function better with a clean and tidy apartment. Don’t get me wrong. I love the homey look. Scandinavian style is not for me. Still I feel like it is cluttered and I dont have a good system for stuff. My freelance workflow is incredible but my apartment? Not so much. I am the kind that prefers solitude so I spend a lot of time at home. It should make me feel glad to be there not OMG it is a fucking mess!! My friend is a neat freak and I love her apartment. I just need to buckle down and DO IT.I have a plan for that too. I will write about it more at the end of July to see if it works for me or not. I know it will though. I have taken every aspect of my personality into account, and I am pumped to make this the best apartment ever!

I would recommend this book to everybody. In fact I have. I read it in a couple of hours, but, it still has stayed with me. I took notes and put them into my to do list. I am the messiest person ever so I am curious to how all this will pan out.

loved-it

  1. I wanted to read this book, but I was on hold forever for it for the ebook at the Free Library of Philadelphia and it was taking forever, so finally I gave up on it. However, my wife read it and would like to implement some of the things in it too. Now we just need to read the book on procrastination. 😉

  2. […] FOUND MY FITBIT! I had just read the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. I was folding my underwear. No, I did not talk to them. Anyway, I saw a pair waaay back in the […]
